The old deal was to widen the upper control arms (Jack Arnew gets the credit for that), and get 5-7 degrees positive caster, 0 camber throughout travel, 1/32-1/16 toe-in. My old SS/IA car also has travel limiters that pull 1 1/2" out of the upper control arm "droop". There's very little friction in my control arm bushings. I can't tell that they ever messed with the strut rods on my car.
Widen the upper control arms???

Yup; they're wider (from pivot points to ball joint) by about 3/4" - 1"; haven't looked at 'em in some time. Keeps the wheels vertical. Jack would section them, then add a section from another pair. Lots of Mopar SS cars ran his control arms.
Where can I get a set of these??

Good info there, as I've been underneath a couple competitive cars and the upper control arms looked too good in a way....but I could never quite put my finger on....exactly what was done to them.
One thing I've noticed is the K member moved forward, and the engine mounting is then moved back to compensate. And then little fabbed up spacers are used behind the torsion bars, between the bars and the clips. Must really help to get the caster straightened out.

I'd sure think of some nylon bushing with machined center and outers. You can buy the setup to put in your A-arms. I'd think you could adapt them to a Mopar. We run this in our circle track cars that have a no spherical end rule. The trick is facing the centers just so there is a little side play in the nylon. Also you need to tighten them by feel to make sure there is free play in them. Do not run a full season without disassembling them, inspecting, cleaning, and re-lubing them. Not even close if you are competitive. You could design a nylon half moon ball and machined metal cup arrangement that would not technically by a spherical tie rod. In the end you should have something nearly as much freedom at all spherical. But just more expensive/time consuming to make, more maintenance, and more complex. One type of control arm bushing. http://www.colemanracing.com/Bushings-Lower-Control-Arm-P4719.aspx

Someone posted about using ball joints at the pivot point. I don't remember which one. possibly they will chime in.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Would that not quality as a type sphirical type rod end.
The old Mopar Winston Cup car used ball joints as front strut rod pivots. You just cut the K-memember to accepts a upper ball joint sleeve they made for upper control arm. They are around $10. http://www.colemanracing.com/Ball-Joint-Sleeve-Weld-On-K6141-P4289.aspx
Then screw in a K-727 upper ball joint.

I saw them on a friends old Nascar Daytona. Upper ball joints were welded into the front of the K-Frame. The strut rods were hollow at the front and threaded onto the ball joint. I'm sure you could weld the threaded section of an old control arm into the K-Frame and thread them in as well. Doug
