I posted on this topic last week. So I put 1 1/2 quarts in my rear drove the car about 5 miles and the rear started to rumble on decel.
How much oil is safe to run on the street and do you think this low oil situation hurt the rear ?
Also I didn't exceed 60 mph.
Thanks,

Did the lube come out of the fill hole when you put in the 1 1/2 quarts? or is that all you had? What's the recommended amount to put in?

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I run 2 quarts of Redline shock proof oil in my strange S60 w/ Aluminum cover. Working fine for last 5 years, race only...

The fill hole in the aluminum case is much higher than the factory stamped steel cover. Why I don't know. The factory leve would be perfect. But there is no way to judge.

Getting back to your problem of gear noise. Who set up the gears? are they street gears or pro race gears. The 1 1/2 quarts should have been enough lube

I bought the rear right from strange. I am starting to think the rumble may have been from a low tire. The rear has a detroit locker in it and today I found my right rear was flat. I picked up a drywall screw on my test drive.

fill it no more than factory level, whatever it takes to get it there.
measure a std cover and fill to that hgt relative to housing.
At least thats what's been done round here.

I think the Mopar factory spec on fluid capacity on the dana 60 is 5 pints, IE 2.5 quarts I have had one of the old Mopar drag seminar instructors(Tom Hoover) say to run only one quart in the Dana 60 and 8 3/4 for drag racing

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
