We are looking at a 2010 Grand Cherokee for a daily driver instead of driving the Chalenger every where. What kind of milage is every one getting and if there is any thing I need to check on it. It has only 20k miles so it should last us for a long time. Is the v-6 a good motor? Thanks for any info. Ronnie

My daughter bought a 2010 Grand Cherokee Limited all wheel drive a year ago this past February. We had to hunt one down that had the 6 instead of the Hemi (she didn't need a Hemi.... although her boyfriend was pushing to get the Hemi!) I think she averages around 20MPG on hers.

Can't comment on the 2wd, but did road trip a 4wd GC w/ the 3.7 for about 2000 miles (GB to the superbowl and back )

Not that great actually

We took my buds GC since the weather was looking very suspect. I figured since I've pulled 19-20mpg w/ an older 4.7 on long road trips w/ speeds up to 75mph, We might look at similar mileage considering we'd have 3 people in the GC and all the gear, or even a mile or two to the gallon better considering experiences that I've had w/ liberty's and 3.7's.

However, best we did was see a touch over 18mpg. We weren't even driving terribly fast or hard. Much of it we were in the 17's and for a brief period through IL, due in part to winds, we were seeing 15-16mpg before it slowly started climbing back up.

This was worse than either my old 94 GC w/ 4.0 and the Quadra-trac diff, or my 2001 GC w/ a 4.7 had ever done on similar trips.

The official press releases on the new 3.6 V6 is claiming 12% better fuel efficiency than the 3.7 V6,
and as I read that I wondered:

"Is that because the 3.6 is especially good,
or because the 3.7 was below average compared to other V6s of its year of introduction?"

As a rough rule of thumb
new designs of gasoline engines get about 0.7% better fuel efficiency per year,
at least over the last 20 years.

Diesel engines unfortunately are going the other way due to NOx pollution regs.
