so i get a call from my machinist, all my block work is done on my 440.

ny question is this....

Wondering if i need to find one of the factory tools to install and burnish the bushing for the intermediate shaft, or just drive it in and go.

is there a spec for this bore size?

I've heard some folks leave it and some don't.

any help would be extremely appreciated.

Best,
Derek

I've always just driven mine in and ran it.

drive it in , if it needs to be burnished you'll know it , the shaft will go in hard .

put the oil pump on the engine , drop in the shaft you plan on using with out the camshaft installed and see how hard it is to turn with a long screwdriver BY HAND ...

YMMV

We use an old drive with the gear turned down and a banna groove scored in the shaft.Lube it up and use it to drive the bushing in,all the while turning the shaft for a nice clearenced fit.You don't want it too tight,it can chew up or freeze on the shaft or spin in the block.

It can be burnished w/o the tool, but the tool sure makes it easy.

does anyone have a tool that they would trust to "rent" to install and burnish the bushing? I checked and can't really afford the 100.00+ tool for one time use.
