1991 van has the worn out box type steering coupler.Local dealer has them as back order for 2 months now,no idea when available. These are junk anyways-even new.My next thought was to use parts from a newer van(2001) since they use a modern u-joint coupler,They told me it won't work.I've checked borgenson and flaming river,And have not found a direct replacement/upgrade.Anyone do easy upgrades/have a source??Thanks

Are you talking about the rag joint?

Not sure what a "box type" is, as the older style coupler ended in '73 or so on vans.

Later vans have a coupler that is kind of like what cars have, not a rag joint. When I rebuilt my '79 Brougham camper it took me a while to find a good one in the junkyard as I was changing over to a tilt wheel. The last version of the vans moved the dash back and the steering changed because of more angle in the column.

The van uses the same shoe/box coupler that you're vintage mopar uses.kit comes with new clip and new shoes/pin?.They just don't last.I really want too replace the system with an updated bearing/u-joint style. It will last longer and feel so much tighter.I e-mailed flaming river, see what happens. My searchs have found no upgrade, appears from around 2000 ish,the vans use a u-joint coupler, but the columns are different. Not interchagable.Hoping someone has done this,so I know what to order,I'm sure some creativety will be needed,I just don't know the product well enough too order the right stuff. That is the stuff from rock auto,I just want better.
