ok so i may have found a 426 wedge block but its got no casting numbers or anything on it. I've been told its a warranty block. any advise or info on this, im completely unfamiliar with blocks without numbers, also it looks like its been outside for a number of years(rusty), anything i should be concerned about. any advise would be appreciated greatly here.

ALL blocks have casting numbers , if it doesn't it's because some ground them off . The WARRANTY thing is more than likely a load of BS to justify a silly price . Rusty ?? unless you NEED a 426 wedge block and it's basically not free keep looking .

You just have to look in the right spot to see the casting numbers. Or maybe scrape off a bunch of crud. Original 426 blocks are easy to identify because of the bore size. An overbored 413 might fool you and it would be basically worthless so beware.

I could understand a warranty block without a VIN on it but certainly it should have a casting date and the proper I.D. numbers to indicate it is a 426 block. Sounds a little fishy to me but I'm no expert.

How many times has it been frozen? It only takes once.

So what happens if it as frozen as a bare block?

Same thing as an assembled block . If it's been out in the elements and the water jackets filled with water and it froze it could crack.

The point is that the block especially if it is rusty is basically worthless unless you NEED a 426 block. There were many more 426 wedges than hemis if I remember correctly, so just because it is a 426 doesn't make it a Hemi. Now any Mopar big block can be turned into a stout motor but 440s and 400s are the easiest, with 383s being next in my book.

The other experts are right, there must be a casting number on the side of the block unless someone already ground it off. This casting number will tell you everything you need to know.

R.

A rusty block is probably worthless even if it isn't cracked. Once the water jackets rust internally they become compromised. The outside of the block can be shot blasted clean, but there isn't a good way to remove rust from inside the water jackets. You can spend a lot of money on a rebuild and then have it quickly fail due to the cylinder walls being rotten on the inside.

think about putting cam bearings in it and rear main seal. what are you going to do about the lifter bores? will the main caps fit correctly?

Look for a casting number up by the threaded hole for the oil sending unit. Some of those odd ball 413 blocks had a 4-1/4 bore from the factory...ask me how I know.
