OK, i'm building a 440 for the Superbird and I was hoping to button up the engine tonight but hit a snag. My new Mopar Performance cast Aluminum valve covers and my passenger side exhaust manifold both want to occupy the same space when installed. There is plenty of room on the drivers side, but the passenger side is not going at all. has anyone else run across this before?
The only way it.s even close is if I bolt up the valve cover 1st, then attach the manifold. as it gets close to being tight, it hits the valve cover.

Yes, that has always been a problem. Use a spacer or an extra thick exhaust gasket.

There's a company that makes an aluminum layered header gasket that is thick enough to space it away. I think I have the package that the last set that I used hanging on the wall for the part# & company at my shop. Bob

The factory motor home exhaust gaskets work fine. That is what I've always used on my engines that run manifolds. You can probably still buy the manifold gaskets from any Dodge dealer.

what year/application? I saw a "truck" gasket listed on the parts stores websites but it listed smaller port dimensions and fit all big blocks BUT 440? not sure how that works since the heads are interchangeable

Make sure the valve covers clear the intake runners, too; I've had problems there on some combinations.

When I buy the gaskets at the dealer I just ask for motor home exhaust gaskets and the parts guy gives me the correct ones. But he is a smart parts guy so I guess that helps!

Look closely in this picture and you can see them. They have an extra heat shield that protects the valve cover from the manifold heat. Without this heat shield you'll burn the paint off of the valve cover.

Rick Ehrenberg usually has a set on sale on EBay which is where I bought my set from.

I also couldn't get the MP cast covers to fit on a stock 69 GTX with A/C, just too tall and hit the A/C tubing.
