Hello
I think I found the reason for the chattering in my rear brakes. There was no wave washer, as the FSM calls it, at the e brake pivot point behind the horse shoe clip. There wasn't one included in the new brake hardware kit I bought also. So question is where can i get one or what to use as an alternative?

thanks

They usually come in the kit with hardware.I probally have a bunch laying around in the garage somewhere.I doubt thats causing your chatter.Ive done a bunch of brakes that didnt have them and never any problem.Rocky

I'm sure I have a bunch that pissed me off or were extras from hardware kits. Put plenty together without them and zero problems. Highly doubt it would cause a "chatter"

Try an Ace Hardware or McMaster-Carr.

More details on what's going on. When started/what part changes/when does it chatter.

Hello and thanks for the responses. The noise happens when driving over a rough road surface. It started happening after my 70 dart was upgraded to an 8 3/4 rear end, and all new brake parts were used. I could hear the similar noise if I gave either of the rear tires a punch with the car parked.

That wave washer does keep a slight amt of axial tension on the e brake lever pin but I cant see not having it allowing that kind of racket. I'd open things up & a good visual & holler back & might put a slight amt of grease on the pin & see if it quiets down while you are in there exp if everything else looks kosher & might b able to add a thin flat washer between the pin and the back side of the shoe web to take up some clearance along w the horshoe washer that you bend on the front of the shoe web
