Ohio crank and K-1 h-beam rods, was only spinning the motor at 7-7200 at WOT, but when it happened i had just installed the new tunnel ram and had made a nice burnout then staged and left the line at only 3400 on the Brake and got about 300 fett out when the car shook and i shut it down... checking in the pits, i found a lash cap off of #1 cylinder and tried to reset it and still had a dead spot, so havent done anything to the car in months waiting to have time off from work to pull the head and change the one valve i thought was bent.. this is what i found when i pulled it...
bet you over reved it in the burn out box, seen it happen before just like that

i dont think i have ever over rev'd the motor..i have a 7500 chip in the tall side of my 7al box and have never banged against it..But, who knows.?? i will tear it down and see when i get time.. i am betting it was a bearing failure that led to this..just a Guess though..
what kind of rod bolts? I see you said it didn't hit the limiter

Those are decent rods and great fasteners. Its got to be a rod bearing/spun failure as you have surmised.
I think the bearings weak link is the OE little tabs that secure them in. I think they should all be pinned in. As is when they see a little extra friction from lack of oil and they spin.
If they stade in place we would just see some bearing damage and not broken rods and blocks and everything else that can occur.
The tabs do not hold the bearing shells, it is only the crush that keeps them in place. The tabs are for locating only.
Lack of oil can cause a bearing to spin but more likely what happens is the big end of the rod gets eggshaped at RPM and the bearing bites the journal and then it's all over but the crying.
Sorry to hear about you problem, that's got to hurt.

surprized you are using felpro blue head gasket? close up shows gasket leak comp on # 1 ?? , wouldnt use those except on street motor , did the cam get wiped out in the carnage as well?? appears that # piston hit a valve, does appear that it lost bearing ,? oiling issue?? sorry for this , at least it is repairable all is not lost,

This looks and sounds like an all too familiar sight and description. "broken K1 connecting rod and a torn up block" and that picture of the piston sure looks familiar. Please let me know what you find when you take the pan off and start removing the rods.
where did you get that info from? I haven't heard of many K1 rods failing?
