Was removing the lug nuts off a rear wheel last night and...

Yah, I know. Pull the axle, press out the..
I know the drill. Then I started thinking
Has anyone ever replaced a stud without removing the axle?

PS: It a 9.25

I've done them without pulling the axle..

Sometimes there is just enough room to get the stud kinda angled in behind the axle and swing it in before it jams against the backing plate.

I just can't remember what car/axle it was that I did it on ?

Yeah I have. Just smack it with a hammer and it will pop out.Turn it till it clears the brakes. Then slip the new one in.Get a lug nut and some washers.Put the washers on then the lug taper side out. Then tighten with an impact is best.It will pull the stud into the axle.Done it hundreds of times.Rocky

All the time. Rap the old one out with a BFH and put the new one in the hole with an over size nut and use the flat side of the lug nut and against it and draw it through and up tight. No sense pulling the axle. Just added work for no reason and a chance of damaging the seal.
