I just had a new set of tires mounted to original rallye rims for my 70RR. Installed new Mopar Reproduction center caps and brushed aluminum trim rings.
The new trim rings sit about 1/2" above the outside of the rims all the way around. The original beat up and bent trim rings sit flush all the way around. Anyone else have this problem with the Mopar Reproduction trim rings?

Something doesn't sound right. I bought polished 15 x 7 Mopar repops a few years ago, and they fit perfect.

I just noticed the problem. The new reproduction trim rings has the longer clips on them compared to the originals.
The pic on the left is the original. The pic on the right is the Mopar Reproduction. You can see how the hooks on the left are shorter than the hooks on the right. That would explain why the repos sit higher in the rims and not flush. So it looks like Mopar didn't pay much attention when they reproduced these!

It's a good thing in a way the Brushed trim rings don't fit,.....you want POLISHED trim rings for your "70" RR,....unless you desire the BRUSHED 71 style trim rings

PS the new MP POLISHED trim rings fit both my stock and repro Rallyes just fine

If you are talking about 14 inch brushed, I agree. Mine would not fit in thw wheel at one spot on the rim because of the inner spot weld.
Made the rim look like it was bent! 65 dollars wasted

Same here. I have spent 3 hours trying to get these new reproduction rings on. Same problem with the spot weld. It looks like crap but I am going to put the old dented ones back on and the new ones go in the garbage!!!!!!!!!!! Another reason why I buy foreign any chance I get. parts fit the first time. American stuff never fits!!!!!!

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Well I finally got the trim rings installed. Took me 8 hours to get the 4 installed. For anyone going to do this DON'T.
After about 6 hours my neighbor came home from work and gave me some help. These have to be installed on the wheels with the tire and wheel off the car. Then you have to have one person stand on one side of the trim ring and you have to hit the otherside hard with a rubber mallot. No other way to do this!

70RR came from the factory with the brushed and not polished.

These are 14" Mopar Rallye Wheels and 14" Mopar Reproduction Brushed Aluminum trim rings.

Aren't some of the 14" rallye wheels 5.5 and some 6 inches wide.

Ok, forgive me because it's been a long time since I have really dealt with rallye wheels. I grew tired of ALL stock wheels years ago and now all of my cars except one, have aftermarket wheels.

This ad confirms that Mopar had two different size 14 inch wheels.

trim ring ad

I took the 14 inch rallye wheels off my Dart Sport in favor of Weld Drag Lites about ten years ago. I still have the rallyes and tires stacked in the basement. I bought NOS brushed trim rings for it in the early 90s. The front wheels are 5.5 and the trim rings fit snug up against the rim. The rear wheels are 6 and there is a GAP at the edge of the trim ring. I don't know when they went from 5.5 to 6, but they did. Why? I don't know. Perhaps someone else on this site will know. I used to have TONS of these rims back in the day. I used to get them at local junkyards for $5 each. Then I'd make sets and flip 'em for extra cash. Back then, we never cared about date codes or anything like that. I just remember that some were a little wider. I think the same thing is true for the Magnum type wheels too. Somebody... Back me up on this so I don't have to unstack my wheels/tires and take pictures.

I'll save you the time. I took pics of the original and repo. I also measured the inside diameter, outside diameter and depth of both. The reason they don't fit is because they were machined improperly. See pics. Orig on top. Repo on bottom. The orig has the seam straight across and the repo Mopar has the seam that does not line up even. It's crooked. You can easily see this at the weld point. The repo rims seat correctly around the rim but will bind at the seam point where they overlap. This is why they don't fit. I understand what you are saying about the 5.5" and 6" rims. I tried to do a search with the Mopar part # 1-02944424 but does not come up. Also another poster on the thread said he had the same problem that they would not fit the rim.

This is exactly the problem!
