Im putting together a 383 from a 62' Chrysler. My question is regarding the motormounts and the attachment to the block. It seems theres some heat type shields that mount to the block. I was wondering the correct way these go. There seems to be a preety good gap between the block ear and the actual motor mount.... Am I missing something?? Thanks

You should probably invest in a good service manual for that car. It will have photos, exploded drawings, etc. to help you on your way. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I believe that '62-'65 B bodiy mounts are the same. I am not sure about the C bodies though. This is going back into a '62 full size Chrysler, right?

You don't really 'need' the shields.
But they do shield some heat and more importantly, oil from the mounts.

One way to beef up these mounts so they won't fail ever again, is to drill one or two holes right through them, and knock some steel rods into them and weld the ends.
That's how I always modify these mounts.

I have an original factory manual for the car and cant find a detailed picture of how these shields go. I understand that Imperial makes a mount for these, But I want the engine to appear factory...so Im trying to figure out the correct way these shields mount. Thanks

Here's what the '62 parts book shows:

'62 B-body is slightly different from 63-65 which are completely different than the C-body mounts shown here.

'62 B body motor mounts are a mixed bag, the very early 318 used a one-piece mount very similar to the C body mount pictured above, later in the year they changed to the traditional 2-piece mount. The BB used the same insulator as the later 318 but incorporated a one-year-only wedge shaped bracket between the insulator and the K-member.

Thanks. I got the mounts on last night, and noticed a large gap between the back of the mount and the heat shield...

I just made some spacers up out of round stock. Im not sure if it is how it was, but it will work.I just got a long enough bolt so I could tighten the mount to the block, install the spacer and then put another nut on the outside of the shield...
