its the trunk spring set up. it torques the one side only, creating the lift on one side.

you can bend it (yourself or a body shop)

you can MOD it to accept differt alt stock pivots/hinges and have modern struts to stay open. i think they were using 80's honda strut stuff. some had just a shiny thin chrome pole.
