If it kicks back on release of the key it means that it is getting spark in the run position. Try a new ballast resister. OR turn the key to the run position and then go under the hood and try to start it by jumping the relay terminals. Make sure that it is in park or neutral before doing this as it will start in any gear. It is nice to have the air cleaner off to so that you can pump the gas by hand when trying to start it.
