^^^ Interesting...I've been lightly greasing paper & cork gaskets for decades, and it's worked well for me.
No leaks & more easily removable.
That said, I consider gaskets as consumables. Yea, in the whole scheme of things gaskets are dirt cheap. If you have to buy these things as often as I have it adds up, but that wasn't the point, it's the time and effort to scrape those things off that is the issue.
