Back in the mid-'80s, for a while I managed an insurance co total loss department. One of the claims was a Mercedes, for which the seller/insured had accepted a cashier's check. Nice-looking check, but counterfeit.
They're probably harder to fake & easier to verify nowadays - that was 40 years ago - but that memory pops into my head every time I hear "cashier's check".
