For the same reason that if you want a strong air compressor……..it takes 220v power to make more than 2hp. 1hp is 755w. 2hp is 1500w. A standard 15amp electrical outlet is about 1800w (rough head math). You CANNOT make a true 3hp device on a standard 15 amp 120v circuit.

220v pressure washers DO exist, but they are more of an industrial ($$$) item.
