I agree on mounting them the same height or lower than the pump.
That being said on my last race car motor with a remote oil filter I mounted on the front of the motor near the driver side inner fender well on the motor plate above the oil pump with no problems with it mounted their
That motor had one of the NASCAR type large remote mounted oil filters adapter with the bigger holes in it on the pressure return size to the oil pump
