Might be tough for you perfectionist, but if you mount the electric fuel pump at a slight angle, with the pump outlet higher then the inlet and the attached (inlet)
fuel line having a dip with the lowest point at the inlet being lower then the output line side, it solves a lot of first start up issues. When you shut the pump off, there is always fuel at the dip (and in the pump) between the high point on the outlet to the low point on the inlet side of the pump waiting to be pumped. As soon as the pump turns on, it pumps the fuel in the dip, and will suck the fuel from the tank into the pump without missing a beat. Doesn't have to be a very big dip, just enough to keep the pump full and the inlet with a little reserve. See pic.
