I am working on a 1973 727 trans and had to replace the reaction shaft bushing. After I installed the new bushing the input shaft will not fit into it as it is too tight. I removed and replaced it again just in case I tweaked it on install. The Shaft still does not fit. Do these need to be honed after install? Or are the new bushings (Federal-Mogul) not the right size. Bushing fits over the shaft ok with free play before install. Any help appreciated.


Compare the diameter of the input shaft against the installed bushing.

Input should be a couple thousands smaller. Bushings “shrink” once pressed in their bore.
