All ignition boxes retard with RPM. I wouldn’t lock it out unless you have some other way to compensate for that retard. I know it’s done on a regular basis, but it’s not really a good thing.
Here's my issue. My car wants more idle timing. Currently it's @ 24 with a 10 degree bushing total is 34. All in about 2000. Idles around 12-1300 but it's not happy. Cam is 271 @ 50. With the MSD dist. if you bump the idle timing up to say 28 then the total goes to 38. Other than modifying the advance slots for less total, locking is the only option. Or buy something programmable.
