What were the results of checking for voltage differences? (see post 2)

No need to disconnect the regulator.
Just measure the voltage the regulator is 'seeing'. That's the 'ign' terminal.
After that, check the voltage at the alternator output stud.
Compare with voltage at the battery positive.
Best done while running.
