Obviously on the track they had no idea how severe this was and given the severity of the impacts, made every effort to keep the scene isolated to keep stray photos of the effort from popping up. For all they knew pulling up to the wreck, he was expired and he was probably unconscious for most or all of the extraction process. Once out of the car and at the hospital, they ran with it in the hope that requesting time and privacy would be well accepted by everyone who saw it.
