The volume of robocalls that passed through the Palumbos' system was substantial, prosecutors say.
The Justice Department's complaint says that over 23 days in in 2019, the Palumbos transmitted more than 720 million calls, 425 million of which lasted less than one second in duration and came primarily from India.
The calls are "spoofed," meaning a false U.S. number appears on the recipient's caller ID. Spoofing makes it look like the call is coming from someone in the recipient's area code.
