The major visual difference between the stock non self adjusting and self adjusting is the size of teeth on them, the self adjusting are a lot smaller with a lot more of them on them,I've use the self adjusting on my drag cars with the rest of tat hardware taken off, the smaller teeth make it a little harder to adjust properly to the exact amount of width on the shoes work You need to be patient and count the strokes on the brake wrench when turning the adjuster to get them exactly the same on both sides.
You can use a large pair of outside brake calipers to do the adjusting with the brake drums off work I do up
