What does the absence of the VIN on the pad indicate? A service replacement? Could sand blasting the case have caused the VIN to disappear? But the 727 transmission has a 1975 part number and date code. There is no VIN on the pad. It was DOA and needs to be rebuilt.

I am not sure whether it is a worthwhile endeavor to find a correct 670 transmission for my Cuda. Did the exterior design of the case change from 1970 to 75? Are there any noticeable visible differences? I could always get my transmission rebuilt to 670 specs.

A 670 is a lot easier to find than a 671 or 672. As for case differences I doubt there are any major differences.

It's really up to you if you care about the correct part number or not.
