I had a (factory) big block (2wd) '77 truck 25 yrs ago. It's been my understanding that when the brackets are shaped like yours, they're for 4 wheel drive. When they are straight like pictured below, they are for two wheel drive (this is what my truck had).

I hope tpighese are right, as I bought a set of those as well as ram horn manifolds and a water pump to put a big block in my '78.
