Now on the second batch, after sanding off the first try, I thought I was being more conservative with the mineral spirits. But when I calculated it out, I was still at 28%, and I can see runs in this (not as bad as the first time though), so this is getting sanded down and I'm going to go way under and hopefully I'll see what 20% looks like. Third times a charm I hope.

So far its not too much fun but I think once the mixture is right that will help a lot.

Are you doing the step where he said to let the paint stand for about 1 minute after you apply it, then gently glide over it again with the brush to smooth it out? I believe he said that by doing this you will prevent runs, in conjuction with not making the paint too thin.
