I have to admit that I did try this. First time trying a turbo. I built one header that fed an old mack truck turbo. No wastegate. It would make about 1 lb of boost, and would overheat the intake like mad! I had an old CH4B intake with the exhaust cross over still opened up. That path through the intake was acting like a wastegate. After figuring this out, I put a valley pan with the heat cross over blocked. That got me to a max of 3psi boost. I finally plumbed the exhaust on the other side into the turbo. Ended up making 9 psi boost with no wastegate. Very poorly matched turbo for the application.
