For your car I would run(and do) the M/T ET Street Bias plys or the ET STreet Radails, as large as you can fit in the car. I don't use tubes in the bias ply tires and the radials don't need them. As far as wadding up a tube in the car after it was mounted correctly I have done that with Mr Murphys help, I let the pressure down to low and bingo on that run it wadded up the tire and starting shaking like a bad dog in high gear It took a while to figure that one out the tire was in balance before the run and no weights had come off the rim and it was really out of balance after that run I quit using tubes in drag slicks under the advise of the Firestone tire guys at the races back in 1978. I have also split a tube in high gear in a stick shift Hemi car in 1976 , no fun on that run either, I thought I was going to mess the piant and body work up big time Good luck on your decision, no matter waht it is
