I Pulled the valve springs, one cylinder at a time, to replace valve-seals. Used compressed-air to keep the valves shut. Worked great.

Fairly cheap and (guessing, in most places) locally available. I bought mine at a Pep Boys, but Harbor Freight ($13) and most of the automotive tool makers sell similar versions as well.

I had the Craftsman version of this , it's great for low rate/pressure springs , think stock non HP , but after many uses with higher rate springs it started to self destruct and creating small metal chips. I tossed it and bought the Proform unit i mentioned.
