The best way to pull the engine is of course with the special tool from miller. It can be pulled without it just as easy. You must remove the intake to remove the engine with or without the tool. the rear attachment point of the tool in the center of the lifter valley can be used to bolt a chain in a loop. There the chain can be attached to the engine with 2 8mm bolts threaded into iron block. Plenty strong enough to lift the engine out of the truck. I have done it this way several times without a hitch.
