You are then shifting twords reverse. The older stock type shifters don't have a good revers lockout to keep you from slamming into reverse
If you're got the factory slap-stick shifter I don't think that's an issue if you're running a fwd pattern valve body.
Other factory shifters I could see that possibly being an issue if they're not adjusted properly.
As it was explained to me the reverse pattern manual was the best choice because of line pressure being higher than a fwd pattern valve body.
