Really? The sub-structure/bracing underneath is metal, but the finished tray part needs to be too?
If the battery and/or fuel cell is located in the trunk area, then yes, the bulkhead must be sealed with a min of .032" alum. If using the stock, unaltered fuel tank and the battery remains in the stock (up front) location, then it can be left open.

Yes, and if you do steel, I think it has to be .016" thick.
