This is the route that I've gone for mine, after having had experience with all of the above options. Mine is an OEM hood that will need some tricky repair in places, but I lucked into a very skilled metal craftsman that will make it perfect.

FWIW there were a few original Challenger shaker hoods for sale at Carlisle last year ranging from obvious junk to those looking shiny and good. But without seeing the hood in bare metal or close to it, Challenger hoods can hold nasty surprises -- particularly in the nose section.
