I was thinking about that in a diluted concentration.

But you are right, it will etch and dull the finish. Not what you want if you are looking for a bare aluminum finish.

I use it for getting brite-dip coating off aluminum trim, but straight out of the can. It makes the finish very milky until you sand and buff it.
