No, the input shaft is smaller too.
The hole in the crank changed sizes between 1967 and 1968. If I remember correctly the 273 and 318LA cranks will work in the 340 if rebalanced, but if 67 or earlier will have the small pilot hole. If this is a 904 trans (don't know about the 727), then yes, you can get a custom converter, with the small pilot and the large (68 up)splines inside. I have three converters, that were made that way.
