I have never had a cooling issue with my 22" radiator but I had a alternator belt squealing problem and tried everything new except a set of oem style pulleys. So I installed the new pulleys and the good news is the belt squealing is fixed. Turns out that the old larger than normal engine pulley and the smaller than normal water pump pulleys were turning the alternator so fast it couldn't keep up. The bad news is now the engine runs hot while idling.

The culprit is the new water pump pulley is 1-3/4" bigger than the old one which makes the fan turn relatively slower. Also, the engine pulley that drives the water pump is 3/4" smaller than the old one which makes it turn slower yet.

The cooling at speed seems unaffected, but that's expected because the fan really doesn't do much at highway speeds.

I have a few options. Installing a fan shroud for the existing 22" radiator would be the textbook solution, but the shrouds are relatively expensive and I'm not 100% sure it will work. So to be sure, I think I will go for a 26" aluminum radiator and a shroud. Total cost will be about $300 but I think it's my best chance of having to do this only once.

Opinions?
