Yes, modern vinyls actually last longer than the ones from 1970. The original stripes were made using a 3M calendared vinyl. It was probably only rated for 2-3 years of outdoor use (based on non-fluorescent colors). Modern calendared vinyl is rated for 4-7 years depending on color. Today's Cast vinyls are even higher rated. Most Cast material is rated for 6-10 years.

Fluorescent colors are a different matter, however. They are not durable at all - they are generally rated for just 6 months of outdoor use. They will fade really fast regardless of brand - basically they loose their fluorescence and you will be left with a faded orange decal which will actually appear slightly darker than it originally did once it looses the fluorescence.

So, if you want an orange stripe, the best thing to do would be for me to send you the swatch book so that you can choose which shade and type of material you want.
