That's what I did, sanded to bare metal where the box attaches, on both the box and fender. Also used one of those sharp star washers under each bolt. I'm sure there was a good ground.

On the Mirada though, the box bolts directly to the inner fender apron. There's no bracket that allows an air gap. I may add one similar to what my NY'er has.
