Not until 1969 were the VIN's put on the body. The SO# is on the broadcast sheet as well as the fender tag and the used as the body stamps, more of an internal Chrysler thing than anything. Sometime in 68 the VIN numbers were put on the engine and trans, then in 69 they made it to the body. As for as significance, not really sure of what you are asking?

What he said, though the VIN on engine and trans is hit or miss , I had a sept 67 built 68 wit hthe engine and trans vin stamped , and a later marchish built 68 without the engine stamped.

The significance is it is the only way to tie the body to an ORIGINAL fender tag , to tie the VIN to the fendertag you need the broadcast sheet and/or the ibm/punch card ... which doesn't exist for 68 and up ...
