I have to say that I am confused. I never would have thought a solid cam with that much lift and duration would work well at all for my needs. I have a 284/484 cam in my 440 and it has no vacuum and a very choppy idle and poor fuel mileage. I guess I just don't understand cams well enough...

I was thinking something a little less money on the pistons as well.

Any others have cam/piston suggestions?

284/484 cam is awful for anything but racing. The 528 solid is way more mild. Solid doesn't = Race. I'd think a well tuned 383 w/ a 528 solid with Mani's or headers and 3.23's would get at least 16 probaly more... That said If mpg's is what you are after I'd call a cam guy and have a cam made for your application
