Maybe it's the the fact that the input shaft won't come out the front on a 23 spline that I was able to pull the bearing off without disassembling the trans, I popped off the snap rings and used 2 screw drivers against the case and was able to pull off the bearing.

As said above it's not as simple as one might hope , obviously depends on how tight the press fit it , I do remember it took a bit of work to get it off and get it back on because of the press fit.
I would be opening that trans up to see how it looks and regasket it at minimum , see hown much junk flushes out .
