I still know where there are a number of FMJ cars in a junkyard. I was wondering if there would be a fit up issue with a brake booster sourced from one of these cars on my 1972 B-Body?

If you're looking for a cost effective way, I put an Advance Auto booster on mine, works fine. 70 B body. Price was reasonable.

I can't image a 40 yr. booster from JY would be good. As mentioned, go to RockAuto or local parts store and get one. I was thinking that after I posted this. However, even a rebuilt FMJ booster is more reasonably priced than one for a 1972 B-body. Also, since I don't have a core to exchange, the core charge is much lower. So it still would be advantageous to use the newer booster if it will fit.

keep in mind the diameter of the FMJ booster doesn't interfere with the hood closing. it may be close on some applications. It'll certainly hit the valve cover if a big block is in the car. All F/M/J boosters are two bolt master cylinders. When I did the BB swap in my car I was able to source a booster from a late 70's (something with a big block, forget) and it was the smaller diameter kind. Only ran me $50.

All F/M/J boosters are two bolt master cylinders. 76 and 77 F body is 4 bolt master cyl. Even so I still think there is a difference between the 72 b body and the F body boosters.

I put an FMJ booster/master cylinder in my 72 big block RR. Fits right in, no mods. Awesome. Thank you! On more question. Is there a reinforcement plate between the booster and the firewall? If there is then I will probably have to source that from a junkyard.

duffer, glad the news is good for ya ! i remember using a late 70, early 80 ish booster, M or J, i can't remember which, on my 64 belvedere post car which required a slight ovaling of the original firewall through hole, and drilling a couple of extra mounting holes, and if i remember correctly, there was a stiffening plate, but that was way back in the late 80's, early 90's, so don't take that as gospel. my brain is loosing memory space. the car had a poly motor, and there were no clearance issues at all with the big diameter booster.

After almost 3 years I've got my Coronet back out of storage and I'm tinkering with it again which is been very therapeutic. However, I have 2 teenage kids and their activities, especially during the summer, can get expensive. This is why I'm looking for inexpensive ways to do upgrades.
