I have a valve body that I believe is from a 71 big block 727. It does have the comb for the 69-up NSS.

How can I tell the year?
Am I correct that this valve body can be used in a 67 727?
Besides the part-throttle kickdown of the 71, are there any other advantages or disadvantages to the 71 vs. the 67 valve bodies?

What's the casting date clock on the VB say , not that that is an indicator of actual year. Someone might be able to identify by the number punched out on the seperator plate . Yes it will work fine in that 67 core .

In the pic below of a '71-later VB notice the steel cover plate on the top of the main VB casting, it has six screws while the '70 and earlier only have four. The PTK module is visible to the left.

Thanks John. The trans the valve body came out of was a 71. I know that because it was behind a 383 and it does match the picture.

Is the steel plate punched "934"?
