Hey guys I have as stated a 505" 440 source strker kit with an Engle solid cam 587/602" lift eddy heads... Car runs good except on a WOT stomp I get a slight "bog" then it comes into power. I noticed I have 9" of vacuum at idle and my power valve is a 35. And my jets are 64's. The throttle plate is not past the transition slot and they have been drilled for more air... My question is should my PV be around a 55-65? And would that cause my "bog"?

Are those 50cc pump readily available.. And I'm assuming you're talking accelerator pump???? Correct? Also is there a number on my pump to tell me what I have?

If you are getting a bog just driving the car, it will fall flat on its face if you take it to the track and actually hook. you will need a 35 squirter if you change pumps. if you can find a blue pump cam, it will help your current situation

Are you using stock carbs? if so i would slow down the secondaries a little bit. The easiest way is to just drill a hole in the secondary vacume hose creating a leak/bleed hence slowing down the secondaries you can respring it later

How do you have your timing set-up; what's your initial, how much mechanical advance, what's your total and are you running vacuum advance?

Do you have any vacuum leaks anywhere? How have you verified it?

There are some excellent vacuum outboard sixpack carb set-up instructions on this site. Have you followed them carefully?

Perhaps someone can post the link to them.

We have built several sixpac strokers and had the same problem. We found that the end carbs come in too fast and since they do not have acc pumps hence the bogg. We have had to sometimes double the springs in the diaphrams to cure that. It has never been the acc pump.

Where can I get a blue pump cam? I take it that the blue has a more aggressive pitch to add more fuel?

Jake as someone with a 600 hp 451 with a Sixpac I would like to hear some more about your spring setups on these.
Mine will still come in hard with the brown springs, running about 13" vacum at 1100rpm. installed quick fuel plates and 88 jets.

I agree with Jake, try slowing down the outbaord carbs opening rate first BTW what jetting and timing are you using now? Stock carbs or the newer Holley replacement carbs? I used the old(1984 maybe) Mopar bible suggestions on one of my sixpak carbs set up and used a wide ban on another set, 12.8 to 13.3 at WOT worked the best on both using 93 octane non Ethanol Oregon pump gas What type trans, automatic or stick? If automatic what stall converter? Enough questions from me now

I haven't checked lately, but you used to be able to buy spring kits with varying strengths for the end carbs. We used them for tuning along with jets / plates, squirters and timing based upon air and track conditions.

Try moving the timing up to 16 and 36, also try a bigger jet on the center carb., 66 or 68 and see if that helps. I ended up running some fuel lines from the vent tubes over the carbs to the rear of the air cleaners when I made the outboards carbs open off of a set screw in the center carb instead of letting them open by vacume only at the track. My car is a 1971 duster that was made to be a fast street car, not a race car It weighs 3450 with me in it at the track, it runs in the mid tens cork up on Oregon pump gas at 128+ MPH with the 6 pak air cleaner on 1.43 60 ft. times on 315x60x15 M?T ET Street radials

That will cover up the problem that the end carbs are opening too fast. They do make a spring kit, but occasionlly I still can't get them to slow down enough with even the heaviest springs that is why I would have to double the light springs to to tune it in. I never tried the idea with a hole in the vacuum line but I like that I may have to try it. It use to work when I was playing with the vacuum line on a turbo car I had.

You might need more jet and try the purple springs in the outbords. I'm running a Stage VI headed 440-6 w/ a 588 solid roller. I went w/ 35 squirters, 4.5PV, 70 main jet, and purple springs. I also have a 3800 stall and 3.91's. Mine flat out explodes the tires with no bog. It also cruises nice and steady.
