Friday Mo-Power Results
The opening day of the 19th annual Mo-Power Events here at National Trail Raceway has been completed and some great racing action took to the track. The high water table made the racing the 1/8 mile version of drag racing, but for many in the area just being able to go down the track without rain falling from above was a great thing.
Racing was conducted in the Friday Night Box and No Box Gamblers races, as well as the Bag of Nails Battle of the Sexes event. The Indy Cylinder Heads Quick 16 category also got the first of their qualifying sessions for the weekend down the track as well. Winners of today's action included Don Stahl (Box), John Lawson (No Box), and Jenni Vernon (Battle of the Sexes).
Over 90 entries made the opening round of the No Box Gamblers Race and when the dust settled, it was Lawson and his 1971 Duster from Pataskala, Ohio matched up with the 1964 Plymouth of Dan Brewer from Ludlow Falls, Ohio. The final round was great racing action for the fans as Lawson got the slight edge off the line. At the finish line, a 6.520 on a 6.52 dial in for Lawson lit the win light over the breakout 7.290 on a 7.30 for Brewer.
The Box final brought the classic dragster vs. door car battle to the staring line with the 1983 Aries of Stahl from Hamilton, Ohio against the 2002 Undercover dragster of Mount Vernon, Ohio's Kevan Moore. Stahl followed the script of Lawson as he got the light off the start and ran a nice 6.236 on his 6.23 dial in to get the win over the 5.372 on a 5.36 for Moore.
The Battle of the Sexes saw the same towns from the Box category battle it out for gender supremacy. Mount Vernon, Ohio's Vernon and her family's 1966 Coronet went up against Hamilton, Ohio's Brian Hendrickson and his 1972 Demon. Hendrickson got the slight edge off the starting line, but broke out at the finish line trying to stay ahead. His 7.761 on a 7.77 dial in fell to the 7.125 on a 7.12 for Vernon and the girls carried the night.
In Quick 16 qualifying, Chris Wheatcraft from Jamestown, Ohio leads the Open category after the only session scheduled to run here tonight. The 2008 Undercover dragster stopped the clocks at a 4.579 to get the provisional top spot. Bruce Gaier is second with a 4.901 and Scott Sanford is third with a 4.988. In the Door category, Rick Allison and his 1993 Daytona from Camby, Indiana is on top with a stout 4.895. Second is Wayne Brewer with a 5.008 and third is Scott Foster with a 5.387.
Racing resumes on Saturday at 9:00 AM. Scheduled for eliminations are the Quick 16, Ten O Shootout, and the class eliminations in Max Wedge and Hemi. The Saturday Gamblers races in Box and No Box are also on tap for tomorrow.

Is the low area up towards the store on the top end under water?
It was bone dry.... grass may have been a lil wet, more than enough room for every one.
I went to spectate, great weather and decent turnout.

Saturday
Two things came out of the Saturday here at the Mo-Power event that was welcomed sounds to everyone in attendance. First, for the second day in a row it was a great day for racing without the dreaded "r" in the forecast. Second, the 1/4 mile racing action let everyone hang it out downtrack. For many that would be the first time all season that could be accomplished.
On top of all those positives, the racing action was just as great on the track. The racers were going after victories in several classes here today. None of which was more difficult than the always popular Indy Cylinder Heads Quick 16. In the hotly contested class, Kelly Foster was able to come out on the winning end for the first race of the 2011 season. Also hot on the track was Bob Frazee who doubled up with a win in the Gamblers No Box race and the CRT Ten O Shootout. Joining them in victory were Rick Silvers (Gamblers Box) and Craig Marshall (Max Wedge/Hemi Race).
Following qualifying in the Quick 16 class, Mike Trouth and his 2010 Undercover dragster led the Open side with a 4.543 in the 1/8 mile distance. On the Door side, Chris Wheatcraft drove his 2002 Neon to the low qualifier position with a 4.634. Coming in #4 in the Door side, Foster drove his Sidney, Ohio based 2000 Avenger past Jack Moore, Rick Allison, and low qualifer Wheatcraft to get to the final. Trouth made the trip from Cold Springs, Kentucky worthwhile by winning over Scott Sanford, had a round two bye, and Bruce Gaier to match up with Foster. In the final encounter, Foster used a great .010 reaction time to get the jump and force Trouth to breakout to get past him. A 5.397 on a 5.38 for Foster got the title over the 4.563 on a 4.57 for Trouth.
In CRT Ten O Shootout qualifying, there were 23 competitors that made the race. Showing that you can win from anywhere on the ladder, Frazee and his 1969 GTX from Massillon, Ohio qualified #22 and ran against Brian Hendrickson in a 1983 Aries borrowed from Don Stahl who qualified #23. Both drivers knew that they were both faster than the 10.00 index, and the starting line would be key. Frazee got the light with a fantastic .002 to Hendrickson's .033 light and ran a 10.019 to win over the 10.026 for the trailing Hendrickson.
Frazee returned to the starting line for the No Box final round right after winning the Ten O Shootout and took on 1974 Scamp of Evansville, Indiana's Brad Paul. Looking for the double up for the night, Frazee won before he left the starting line when Paul red lighted by a scant eight thousandths of a second. Frazee took the win with a 10.045 on a 9.95 dial in to secure his second win.
The Box final had some intrigue as well as Silvers drove his 1968 Dart from Batavia, Ohio to the win over the 1979 Aspen of Newark, Ohio's Dustin Goodin. Goodin, who is in a No Box competitor had worked his way through the field to get to the final round and tried his hand with Silvers. Goodin was ready with a .011 light, but Silvers was better with a .008 reaction time. The scoreboard showed the win for Silvers with a 10.227 on his 10.19 dial in to Goodin's 12.896 on a 12.84.
Marshall drove his family's 1965 Coronet to the Max Wedge/Hemi Race win over the 1964 Fury of Dan Fabian. The Columbus, Ohio resident got the victory when Fabian, from Macomb, Indiana, lit the red lamp with a -.016 reaction time. Marshall saved the equipment with a mid track shutoff 10.693 on a 9.66 dial in to complete the win.
Tomorrow is the final eliminations day here at the Mo-Power events. One time trial for all classes is scheduled for 9 AM and eliminations in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Max Wedge and Hemi set to go around noon. Those not able to attend, the 1320go site for NTR will have the live timing of the race if you want to follow along.

Sunday
Final eliminations for the 19th annual Mo-Power events have been concluded for the weekend under clear blue skies and warm weather. Quite the difference from other weekends that have been in the area throughout the 2011 season, but something that was gladly accepted from those in attendance. The racing action was great throughout the day and several strong racers were able to score opening round wins of the season for the Mopar Collector Guide Championship Points Series. Taking home wins for the day were Steve Sliger (Super Pro), Eric Paul (Bowman Performance Pro), Jack Waldren (APS Sportsman), Jeff Millward (Max Wedge), and John Rendes (Hemi Super Stock).
The Super Pro final came down to two 1970 Mopar models in the final round when Sliger's Cuda went up against the Dart Swinger of Kenny Nickless. Sliger spotted Nickless the edge off the dial in by four hundreths of a second, but the Mason, Ohio runner didn't have to worry about that when Nickless fouled out by -.007 right off the line. Sliger ran a 10.823 on his 10.84 dial in to win, while Nickless went back to Akron, Ohio as the runner up.
As always, the battle for the Pro eliminator win was more like a survival of the fittest competition with all the great competition on hand. For the final round, Paul's 1972 Challenge from Evansville, Indiana squared off with the Massillon, Ohio based 1964 Polara of John Wolonsky. A very slight four thousandths of a second edge went to Paul off the line and he carried it all the way to the finish line stripe. Paul recorded a 9.985 on a 9.96 dial in to win over the 11.180 on a 11.15 for Wolonsky.
A pair of great local racers took to the track for the Sportsman final round when Waldren brought his 1970 Dart Swinger to the line against the Orient, Ohio driver Laura Lawson and her 1974 Challenger. In the final matchup of the day, it was Lawson with the slight edge off the line. However, right after that launch, the car went into a violent shake when the transmission had an issue. Waldren got out of the throttle before the stripe and took the win back to Logan, Ohio with a 12.639 on his 12.31 dial in.
A contrast of speed made up the Max Wedge final round when Millward's 1965 Savoy from Columbia Station, Ohio came to the line against Tim Kost and his Atwater, Ohio 1963 model. Kost got the handicap head start with his 11.00 index to Millward's 9.75 index. Off the line, the reaction time edge went to Millward and it forced Kost to breakout to stay ahead of him at the finish line. Millward ran a 9.838 on the 9.75 index to win over the 10.981 on the 11.00 index for Kost.
Rendes got to take the Hemi title home to Strongsville, Ohio today after his 1965 Coronet got the better of Jerry Lower Jr.'s 1968 Barracuda from Blanchester, Ohio. Rendes got the starting line advantage and carried it into a holeshot win at the big end of the track. Lower's 9.156 on a 9.13 dial in wasn't enough to get back around the 10.331 on a 10.30 dial in winning time for Rendes.
The Mo-Power tour returns to the track at Pittsburgh Raceway Park on June 17-19 for the Curt George Memorial double race weekend.
Congrats from NTR for all the winners and for everyone putting on a great race this weekend.
