..first cruise night Tues,a guy asks to see my engine bay,so i open the hood.
..battery acid everywhere!
..this is the second volt reg in 2 years.
..installed a Mopar 419 and all is well... 15 volts at the battery when running..should it be a bit lower?

14.5 is good, 15 is max. I wonder if the power wire to the reg has resistance in it?

It should be between 13.8 and 14.2 volts. 14.2 max at fast idle (2000 rpm). Anything over that will probably boil the acid in the battery. Make sure you don't over fill the battery if you are adding acid or water to it. Been a very long time since I have done any auto electric work, but for the system to charge that high you would have to bypass the regulator. See if you can find a good auto shop that works on electrical problems in your area and give them a call. Shouldn't cost much if anything to have them check it out.

..from my very basic diagram i see only a green and blue wire.
..each wire goes to a field terminal on the alternator and the blue wire also goes to the run side of the ballast.
are the alternator field connections specific for these 2 wires?

..if the blue wire is connected to the start side of the ballast instead of the run side, one field would see 8 or 9 volts while running...and cause the alternator to charge slightly?

What is the Mopar 419? 15V is too high. Fast idle/charged batt (should already have that )/lights & heater on, check voltages/drops/ground side also. Blue/green wires go to either alt field terminal. Want switched 12V "blue" to reg and T to either field terminal and green from reg to other field terminal

..well i have checked my wiring and it is correct.
the first regulator went full field and pinned my ammeter a year ago..i wonder if that damaged a wire somewhere or the alternator.
419 is a mopar resto voltage regulator...41st week of '69 for a 1970
model.(my duster)

Looks like maybe you have a bad ammeter gauge, or resintance in your bulk head, or dashboard wiring.

If this were true, all of the vehicles on the road right now would be melted down.

..yes i checked both our daily drivers and they are 14.6 and 14.2 volts
all switched load is 12.5 volts with the key in the run pos,but the run side of my ballast is only 10.6..i'm losing a couple of volts in the bulkhead or somewhere.
checked continuity in volt reg wires and res is zero
tx so far guys...
