Just changed out to a 5k 10 inch vert, from a 9 inch, the 10 inch seems to need around 2k to start moving the truck where the 9 moved @ idle, what rpms do your converters start to roll cold?

8" "frankenstein" T/A-Coan-Dynamic, flashes to 6150, pulls the motor down at idle. Something doesn't sound right. The 10" should have the ability to be more efficient/tighter.

Mine likely isn't the best one to compare to or maybe it is. It's a 3000 stall T/A 10" IIRC off the shelf from Mancini. My 493 idles at 1100 and it pops into gear and rolls away like a stocker. The car weighs 4800 (C-body) and idling down main drag you have to stay on the brakes or it will be doing what 1100 rpm and 3.23's will give you.

Define cold.

The only time mine does what you describe is if it has sat for a week or 2 and I just fire it and put it in gear but my trans doesn't have the anti-drain back valve. Shift to neutral and wait a few seconds for it to fill the converter back up and it just rolls away like normal.

Exactly my thought... It took almost 4k going up the ramps on the trailer and I can feel heat in the tunnel floor, So I unloaded and put it back in the shop... no racin tonight Swaping verts is such a PITA in a 4x4 Its has enough time to pump up fluid... I wait a few min before droping into gear

I'm sure you've checked off the obvious like is my manual VB in 3 instead of 1? Brake caliper isn't seized? E-brake? Sometimes do-do do occur.

Low fluid level..?

The truck seems to roll easy, and everything was good before the vert change, I checked fluid this morning after the vert change.. I will look @ it again in the morning, there is signs of spoting on the trailer deck... It could be ATF It got dark too quik after we loaded to fool with it,

a big heavy truck, it could happen. sounds like a loose converter. i would run it before i gave up that quick.

Well another lesson learned, I was rushing and left 3 bolts loose on the transfer case adapter ... the good news is I just tightened the bolts and added 1.5 quarts of ATF and all seems well... any opinions on any damage done running 1.5 quarts low for a short time... just loading... going up the ramps I hit 4500 rpm and felt some heat near the gas pedel...

I've had a similar experience with mine. Converter drained back and the fill tube O-ring leaked it all out. Topped it up and so far so good but I'm sure it shortened it's life up by 50,000 miles.

If it feels alright and the oil doesn't appear burnt, it likely didn't hurt itself. For peace of mind you could drop the pan and see what is in the bottom for trash. If the trans has some time on it, it will have some fine clutch friction material laying on the bottom anyway but if the residue is excessive or has pieces of material in it chances are she's scorched.

Heat isn't from the headers?
