My nieghbor has a motor home that was drove and parked about a year ago. He thinks its around a 1972 has a 4 barrel. I crawled under and it does have a thin balancer which indicates its a steel crank correct? Is the 727 tranny the same as a car? I cant look inside to see the top of the motor because bees have moved in. He wants 450.00
for everything he will take it out. What do you think. Thanks in advance for any input.

Are you sure it's a 440? A lot of motorhomes had the 413 up through about 1973. Somebody else might be able to confirm this but I dont think a 73 or older motorhome will have a 440.

No im not sure it is a 440 just that he said it was. Is there a obvious way to tell the diffrence between a 413 and a 440?

The 440 was used in many '72 motorhomes, Winnebego and Dodge in particular.

The flat pad in front of the intake manifold will have the displacement stamped.

Many motorhome 727's have a short tailhousing with a parking brake; can't be used in a passenger car without changing the tail.

my 72 A class Winnie had a 413 ind,, a friends 74 A class Winnie had a 440....

Im going to get some wasp spray and try get a look from inside the motorhome sometime this week. If it is a 440 is it worth the 450.00? Does the tranny have any value with the different tail shaft? Thanks

Just drug home a 72 413 and 727, free for the effort. Forged crank.. If it's a 440 Id say it's worth it. The trans should have a 4 gear planetary (John K should be albe to confirm) Heads maybe scarp value only depending.

The thick balancer .... that also has a shorter OD ? .... more than likely a 413.

Also CHECK the front of the motor ... does it have that big huge water pump ? .... it is a 413 then. And from what I have seen .... all through-1973 Dodge chassised motorhomes had 413's in them.

Also another way ... a Holley carb more than likely says it is a 413 ... a ThermoQuad is a 440.

Crawl back under with a flashlight and look for casting numbers near the bottom of the block next to the oil pan rail. You should see a date, followed by one or two letters followed by the displacement.

The 413 I have has no numbers that I can see on the oil pan rail pad.. and the block had splash shields that prevented seeing casting numbers without removal.

The Dist pad is best source IMO. Mine is as follows HT413 (I'm still learning on this motor) I assume H=72 T=truck 413=413
